SANCTIFICATION FOR SALVATION
(Soteriology : Doctrine Of Salvation)
SECTION 1: AUTHOR OF SANCTIFICATION

1. The Trinity Is In Charge Of Our Sanctification
a. God The Father

Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

b. God The Son, Jesus
Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

c. God The Holy Spirit
2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Note:
* Sanctification is a gift after we get saved
* Its not an accomplishment
* We use it as a good and better use
* When we do sanctification things, holy things for God, don't think its our accomplishment. Its a gift by God to is and we are just using it for better use

SECTION 2: MEANING OF SANCTIFICATION

1. Sanctification And Holiness Are The Same In Essence
Exodus 30:29 And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.
Leviticus 11:44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
* when we sanctify something, we become holy

2. Sanctification Means Two Things
a. Separation From Evil

2 Chronicles 29:5, 15-18 And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.
15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD.
16 And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron.
17 Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD: so they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.
18 Then they went in to Hezekiah the king, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.
* When we clean up the filthiness, depart from any sinful and wicked things, we become sanctified

b. Doing Holy Work For God
Leviticus 27:16 And if a man shall sanctify unto the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the seed thereof: an homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
* This person is sanctifying a holy work to God and he is giving away his possession

3. When We Are Sanctified By God, God Is Setting Us Apart And Using Us As He Desires
Psalms 4:3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

4. When We Are Separated By God, We Are Separated To The Right Thing, Not The Wrong Thing
Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

5. When We Are Separating “From” Evilness, We Are Separating “To” Do Righteousness
Ephesians 4:25, 28-29 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
* Its not separation from, its also separation to
* Separation from sin to the right thing
* We need to replace it

6. Summary Of Sanctification
2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
* Its to be set apart by God, its for God, from sin unto a holy life

Note:
* Some people think that all the "tion" are the same but they are not
* Regeneration: our nature is changed
* Justification: our standing is changed
* Adoption: our position is changed
* Sanctification: our character is changed (we are not doing bad things anymore, we are doing good things)

SECTION 3: TIME OF SANCTIFICATION

* How does sanctification operate towards time

1. It Works At 3 Different Periods
a. Past

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
* When we got saved, we got sanctified (past)

b. Present
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
* Although we are sanctified in the past when we got saved, that doesn't mean that sanctification stops there. We have to keep our christian living clean
* Jesus is telling his disciples to keep sanctifying themselves
* Past is salvation, present is our christian living

c. Future
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
. * Even though our soul is clean, our body still remains wicked
* When we get raptured in the future, our bodies will be sanctified by God (made holy)

SECTION 4: REASON FOR SANCTIFICATION

1. God's Will
1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

2. To Be More Like Jesus
John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
* Jesus sanctified Himself so that we can sanctify ourselves when we follow His example

3. Press Forward For Something Better
Philippians 3:12-14 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

4. How Does Jesus Sanctify Himself?
a. Sanctification Came From God The Father

John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

b. Jesus Gives Sanctification By Himself
John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

c. Jesus Receive Sanctification From His People
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
* Do we let sin to be the king in our heart? Or do we sanctify ourselves and set Jesus Christ as the king of our heart?
* That’s how Jesus is sanctified by His people, by keeping our hearts clean

5. Sanctification Makes Us Permanently Perfect
Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

6. It Results In Fruit Of Holiness
Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

7. It Gives Us Inheritance
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

2 Samuel 6:6-7 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
* God sanctified the Tabarnecle and everything inside it including the Ark Of The Covenant, that's why God killed Uzzah who touched the ark

* Fornication, premarital is wrong, God did not sanctified it

6. His Name
Ezekiel 36:23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.
Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
* Taking God's name in vain will be stoned to death

Jonah 3:5, 10 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

8. Temple Of God, Our Body
1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

5. Yield To What God Tells Us To Do
Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

b. Blood Of Jesus
Hebrews 9:13-14 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.
31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:
21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
22 Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:
