REGENERATION FOR SALVATION

SECTION 1: DEFINITION OF REGENERATION
* Regeneration means born again
1. Born Again = 2nd Birth = Born Of The Spirit
John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
* 1st birth = physical birth
* 2nd birth = spirit needs to be born
* Regeneration means 2nd birth = born of the spirit
2. If We Believe In Jesus For Our Salvation, We Are Born Of God
1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
* When we got born again, we belong to God's family
3. New Birth
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
* When we become God's family, We are a totally different person now that we are born again
* We become a new creature, new nature
SECTION 2: NECESSITY OF REGENERATION
1. Everyone Has To Be Born Again To See The Kingdom Of God
John 3:3, 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
2. If We Are Not A New Creature By Being Born Again, Then Nothing Will Work
Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
3. No One Can Change Their Own Sinful Ways
a. It Doesn't Matter How Many Good Things A Person Will Do, He Will Still Remain Sinful
Jeremiah 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
b. A Heart Is Deceiving And Wicked
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
4. The Only Way That Can Take Away Our Sinful Ways Is Regeneration By Becoming A New Creature
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
SECTION 3: NATURE OF REGENERATION
1. It Is Not Water Baptism
John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

* Wrong teaching: Baptismal regeneration teaches born again is by water baptism
2. It Is Not Reformation
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
* Reformation is man doing the work to change old sinful ways
* This verse is God doing the work to wash our old sinful ways
3. It Is A Renewing And Quickening Of The Spirit
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
* Renewing and quickening means make alive
SECTION 4: AGENTS OF REGENERATION
1. The Word Of God
James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
2. The Holy Spirit
John 3:5-8 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
SECTION 5: METHODS OF REGENERATION
1. The Divine Side: God Is The Only One Who Gave Us The 2nd Birth
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
2. The Human Side: When We Receive Jesus For Our Salvation, We Became God's Family
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
SECTION 6: EVIDENCE OF REGENERATION
* If a saved christian does not have the following 5 points, then he is unable to convince others that he is saved.
1. A Born Again Person Would Have A Desire To Live Right
1 John 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
2. A Born Again Person Would Hate Sin
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
3. A Born Again Person Would Love God And Love Others
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
4. A Born Again Person Would Live In Victory Different From Before
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
* Overcome the world
5. A Born Again Person Would Believe Jesus Is The Christ
1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
SECTION 7: SECURITY OF REGENERATION
1. If We Are Not Born Again, We Cannot See Heaven
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
2. A Born Again Person Cannot Be Affected By Sin
1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
* It means our born again spiritual nature cannot sin
* satan can't even touch us
3. Because We Have The Seed Of God, We Cannot Sin
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
