17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
* We believe God's word is kept save forever
* If our bible has even one mistake in it, then there is no final authority for us to believe in. Our foundation shatters
Note:
* Some believe that the scriptures means the originals (the very first writings)
* Only the originals are inspired and the copies are not inspired
* But we believe that all scripture is given by inspiration of God (2 Tim 3:16-17)
* The question is where are the originals? They don’t have the originals
* When the bible refers to scriptures, it doesn’t mean the originals only
a. Paul Says Timothy As A Child Has Known The Holy Scriptures
* A child have the original scripture? Its a refering to copies.
(i) Jesus Was Reading The Scripture Of Isaiah In The Synagogue
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 20-21 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
* The synagogue have the original scripture?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
* A Eunuch from Ethiopia has the original scripture of Isaiah?
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
* The people in Berea has the original scripture?
* This verse shows its copied out. They are not originals
a. The Originals Are Gone When Moses Broke It
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
* Hew means chop or cut something to make or shape something
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Note:
* Some scholars will claim “them” is refering to righteous people
* We believe “them” is refering to the word of God and we believe that every word of God is pure, preserved forever
* The grass withereth = mankind will fade away
2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
* God inspired a 2nd role which is different from the 1st role.
* This shows double inspiration of God
a. Book Of Habakuk: The Just Shall Live By “His” Faith
5 Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
* This verse is about God condemning the soul which is not upright
* Notice verse 4: The just shall live by "his" faith = mankind's own faith
* This is about mankind's own faith
* Notice the verse: The just shall live "by faith" (this is by faith - not mankind's own faith)
* This is different from Habakuk
* Whenever the Old testament is quoted in the New Testament, it is not always word for word
* This shows double inspiration of God
