DEITY OF CHRIST
(Christology: Doctrine Of Christ)
SECTION 1: VERSES PEOPLE USE TO SHOW JESUS IS NOT GOD

1. Jesus Is A Small God: For My Father Is Greater Than
John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
* for my Father is greater than I.

2. There Is Another Above Jesus That Is God: The Head Of Christ Is God
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
* God the Father and Jesus is not the same

3. Jesus Has His Own God, Jesus Cannot Be The Almighty Jehovah God: I Ascend Unto My Father, And To My God
John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
* Muslims believe Jesus is a prophet but they don't believe Jesus is God

Note:
* Deity Of Christ means Jesus is God
* Many people don't believe Jesus is God:
* Historians believe He is just a man
* Atheist believe He is a myth
* Mormon and Jehovah Witness believes He is just the Son Of God
* Muslims believe He is just a prophet
* How to prove Jesus is God?

SECTION 2: VERSES TO PROOF JESUS IS GOD

A. GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH

1. The Scripture Said: God Was Manifest In The Flesh
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, reached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
* When did God do this? When He came in human form as Jesus Christ
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

2. New Bible Versions Attack The Deity Of Christ: They Say "He" Was Manifest In The Flesh
[NASB] 1 Timothy 3:16 Beyond question, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was [a]vindicated [b]in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.
[NIV] 1 Timothy 3:16 Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit,[a] was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
[ESV] 1 Timothy 3:16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He[a] was manifested in the flesh, vindicated[b] by the Spirit,[c] seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
[RSV] 1 Timothy 3:16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: He[a] was manifested in the flesh, vindicated[b] in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
* Who is "He" mentioned here? Why new bible versions complicate things and make it confusing?
* Who is the author of confusion? Its Satan
* Who doesn't want Jesus to be God? Its Satan
* Satan is the one behind the scenes of these new bible versions and wants to erase any trace of Jesus as God. Thus making it very hard for people to find truth

B. THE WORD IS GOD, THE WORD MADE ALL THINGS, THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH AND DWELT AMONG US

1. The Word Was God
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

a. This Is For Context
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

2. The Word Was Made Flesh And Dwelt Among Us
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

Jehovah Witness Argument:
* Their bible says: and the Word was "a" God
* They will say Jesus is a small god

Answer: God Tells Us God Is Not A Small "god"
Hosea 13:4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
* thou shalt know no "god" but me => small caps = "lesser god"
=> God tells us He is no small "god"

C. JESUS = EMMANUEL = GOD WITH US

1. The Scripture Said: Jesus = Emmanuel = God With Us
Matthew 1:21-23 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
* Jesus = Emmanuel = God with us
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

D. THOMAS CALLED JESUS "MY LORD AND MY GOD" AND JESUS CONFIRMED IT

1. The Scripture Said: Thomas Called Jesus "My Lord And My God" And Jesus Confirmed It
John 20:24-29 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
* Noticed verse 28: Thomas called Jesus "My Lord and my God"
* Noticed verse 29: Jesus confirmed it by saying "Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."
* Thomas called Jesus "My Lord and my God and Jesus confirmed it
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

Jehovah Witness Argument:
* The will say Thomas was saying it out of shock

Answer (1): If Jesus Did Not Confirm It, Both Jesus and Thomas Would Have Commited Sin Of Taking God's Name In Vain
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
* People who take the name of God in vain will not be held guiltless, he will be made guilty
* Thomas declared and stated that Jesus is Lord and God, he did not say it out of shock and Jesus confirmed it

Answer (2): Jesus Told Satan: There Is Only One God To Be Served
Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
* If Thomas said it out of shock, Jesus would have corrected him, because Jesus corrected Satan

E. I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE

1. Jesus Said: I And My Father Are One
John 10:28-31 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
* I and my Father are one
* The Jews knew and heard about it, that's why they took stones to stone Him because Jesus was doing something blasphemous to declare Himself one with God
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

F. HE THAT HAS SEEN ME HATH SEEN THE FATHER

1. Jesus Said: He That Has Seen Me Hath Seen The Father
John 14:8-9 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
* he that hath seen me hath seen the Father
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

G. JESUS IS GOD, HE HUMBLED HIMSELF WHEN HE CAME AS A MAN

1. This Verse Tells Us That Jesus Is God But When He Came As A Man, He Humbled Himself
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

Note:
* If we say Jesus when as a form of man is as much greatness as a form of God, then we are equating man with God
* That is why when Jesus took on the form of man, He was humbled compared to God the Father
* If we put Jesus the Son as much greatness with God The Father and compare with man's ideals, is the son as good as the father?
* What happens to sons submitting themselves to the father? The bible says children are to obey their parents. The sons are supposed to be submissive to the father.
* God the Son is not the same as God the Father, however they both are the same God
* An egg has 3 parts - a shell, a yolk and a white
* Is the egg shell the same as the egg yolk?

H. ONE LORD ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL

1. God the Father Is Lord
Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

2. Jesus Is Lord
Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

3. The Scripture Said: One Lord, One God And Father Of All
Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

I. JESUS = SAVIOUR, JEHOVAH GOD = SAVIOUR => JESUS IS GOD

1. The Scripture Said: Jesus Is Our Saviour
Titus 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
* through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

2. Jehovah God Said He Is The Saviour: I Am The Lord, Beside Me There Is No Saviour
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour
Hosea 13:4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
Isaiah 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me

3. The Scripture Said: Jesus Is A Great God and Our Saviour
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
* the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ

Note:
* Jesus = Saviour, Jehovah God = Saviour => Jesus = God
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

J. BOTH JESUS & JEHOVAH GOD = I AM THE FIRST AND THE LAST => JESUS IS GOD

1. Jehovah God Said: I Am The First And The Last, I am God, There Is No One Beside Him
Isaiah 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
Isaiah 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

2. Jesus Said: I am The First And The Last, I Am He That Liveth And Was Dead And Alive Forevermore
Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Note:
* I Am The First, I am The Last = Jehovah God & Jesus
* Jehovah God Said: And Beside Me There Is No God
* Jesus Said : I Am He That Liveth, And Was Dead; And, Behold, I Am Alive For Evermore
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

K. JESUS FULFILLED THE PROPHECY THAT GOD SAID THEY SHALL LOOK UPON ME WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED

1. Old Testament Prophecy: Jehovah God Said They Shall Look Upon Me Whom They Have Pierced
Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

2. Look at the context Zechariah 12:1
Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
* The burden of the word of the LORD: this verse shows the Lord Jehovah is speaking
* Unbelievers will interpret that Jehovah's heart was pierced when He saw His own son being crucified on the cross because they don't want to admit Jesus is God

3. New Testament Fulfillment: The Scripture Said They Shall Look At Jesus Side Being Pierced As Fulfillment Of The Scripture
John 19:33-37 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
* that the scripture should be fulfilled
* They shall look on him whom they pierced.
* The scripture said that Jesus side being pierced is a fulfillment in Zechariah 12:10 (which we just read)
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God

L. JESUS FULFILLED THE PROPHECY ABOUT A CHILD BORN WHO WILL SIT ON THE THRONE OF DAVID & HIS KINGDOM SHALL BE NO END

1. Old Testament: A Child Will Be Born, The Mighty God, Who Will Sit On The Throne Of David & His Government Shall Be No End
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
* For unto us a child is born
* his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
* his government and peace there shall be no end,
* upon the throne of David

2. New Testament Fulfillment: Jesus Is That Child Prophesied Who Will Sit On The Throne Of David & His Kingdom Shall Be No End
Luke 1:31-33 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
* thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
* the throne of his father David:
* his kingdom there shall be no end.
* Isaiah 9:6-7 is talking about Jesus
=> Conclusion: Jesus is God
